Microsoft was named a Leader in the inaugural 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for AI Agent Management Platforms, a distinction announced on its security blog (Microsoft Security Blog).

The accolade reflects Microsoft’s strategy of treating AI agents like users, apps and devices, using Microsoft Entra Agent ID to assign each agent a unique identifier linked to an owner and purpose.

By embedding agent controls in familiar tools such as Entra, Defender, Purview, Intune and the Microsoft 365 admin center, Agent 365 lets organizations apply existing access policies and risk‑based adjustments without adopting a separate platform.

Agent 365 supports a wide range of services, offering native integrations with Amazon Bedrock, Anthropic, Databricks, Google Gemini and Google Vertex, while previewing connections to OpenAI, ServiceNow and Snowflake.

The platform also accepts custom and on‑premise agents through an SDK and discovers previously unknown agents via Microsoft Security sensors, expanding visibility across cloud and device environments.

Since launch, more than 50 million agents have been registered in Agent 365, and Microsoft is adding discovery for 35 additional local agent types, bringing the total to 60 supported categories.

While the Leader rating underscores Microsoft’s integrated, identity‑first approach, the blog notes that further work remains to broaden agent discovery and governance capabilities across the growing AI estate.

The Gartner Leader placement suggests Microsoft’s emphasis on identity and existing security tooling resonates with enterprises seeking unified governance of AI agents. By avoiding a siloed platform, Agent 365 likely lowers adoption friction, though the need to expand discovery indicates that comprehensive coverage of diverse agent types remains a work in progress.
